One of the most important things you need to know about Diep.io is how to efficiently select the abilities that you want to upgrade. This is done as you destroy shapes or other tanks and earn additional points. When you have points, you get the option of upgrading a skill, and as you increase your skills you will do better in the game. The trick, though, is to know how to increase your skills in a way that maximizes your defenses, and ensure victory against your enemies. In this article, I will be reviewing these skills and the order in which you should upgrade them.
The Skills
The eight skills you can upgrade while playing Diep.io are: Movement Speed, Reload, Bullet Damage, Bullet Penetration, Bullet Speed, Body Damage, Maximum Health, and Health Regeneration. Let’s take a look at each of these skills.
- Movement Speed: This skill refers to the speed of your tank, so it is somewhat self-explanatory. Basically, when you start out your tank moves like eh, well, tank. If you want to more pep in its step so to speak, you could add additional points to this category. Raise it enough, and pretty soon you will be zipping around the battle field and outrunning the other tanks. It really helps with dodging their bullets.
- Reload: Reload decreases the delay between firing. The advantage is that you can output more bullets per second, and therefore score more damage against enemy tanks. This can be pretty handy in a pinch.
- Bullet Penetration: The more you raise Bullet Penetration, the easier it will be for your bullets to block the bullets of the other tanks. So, they act a little like a shield or counter measures, if you’re into movies like “Top Gun.” This can be very handy.
- Bullet Speed: So, now we’re talking about Bullet Speed, the third skill which improves how well you can shoot. Bullet speed refers to the velocity at which your bullet moves. That is counting between the point that it leaves your tank’s cannon to the moment that it hints an enemy tank or shape.
- Body Damage: Body damage increase the amount of armor around your tank. Normally, you aren’t going to be able to stand up to a lot of strikes, or even a collision with another tank, but as you raise this stat you will stand a better chance.
- Max Health: This will increase the size of your health bar, which means that you will be able to last longer in a fight.
- Health Regeneration: Like Wolverine from the X-Men, this stat will allow you to quickly heal up after a skirmish.
How to Upgrade
Now that you’ve gotten the lowdown on what the upgrades are, let’s talk about the best way to go about applying them. Now, you could go in sequential order, but you might find that it doesn’t really do you much good. For instance, you could be the fastest tank on the battlefield, but you still won’t get very far if your bullets aren’t doing very much damage. As you choose which skills to upgrade, you want to think about your goals, which is to collect as many shapes and destroy as many other tanks as you can without getting too badly damage yourself. In order do that, you will want to evade, shoot, and possibly repair yourself as fast as possible.
So, as you gain points, the best approach would be to distribute them evenly to different skills at once. For example, adding 2 points each to speed, reload, and damage gives you a boost in those areas. As you increase your damage, you will destroy shapes faster, allowing you to collect more points and apply upgrades faster. And, as you distribute your points, you will be able to afford additional upgrades until you are able to max out one or two of them.
As you gain points you will, of course, be able to upgrade to higher level tanks. These will allow you to utilize these stats better and, in fact, the tanks that you are planning on using will determine what stats you choose. For example, I tend to go higher with bullet speed and reload if I am planning on using the sniper, because that tank starts out with a much slower rate for its shooting.
So, there you have it: the best way to upgrade your tank, and unsure that you’re a monster on the battlefield! Do you have other advice you’d like to share about Diep.io? Disagree with my methods? Feel free to respond in the comments.
Ranking the Upgrades
So, as you are selecting the upgrades, which will be most important and which should you let slide by? Here how I would rank the different upgrades.
- Bullet Damage: Your first priority should be “Bullet Damage,” because you’re not going to get very far without it. Earn your first few points, and then slap them down on Bullet Damage, and you can’t go wrong. Then, collect a few shapes and move on to your next upgrade which should be . . .
- Bullet Speed: All I can say is that Bullet Damage and Bullet Speed are the Ying and Yang of the Diep.io upgrade ecosystem. So, focus on bullet speed.
- Bullet Penetration: Once you are blowing stuff up faster, throw a few points down on Bullet Penetration so that you are able to stop other tank’s bullets from harming you.
- Movement Speed: Do you drink coffee in the morning? If you said yes, then you know how your tank feels without points added to Movement Speed. Tanks can’t drink coffee, though, so an upgrade to Movement Speed is really the equivalent. Plus, it leaves way less stains on the upholstry.
- Reload: At number 5 is Reload, which allows you to shoot faster.
- Health Regeneration: Moving away from weapons it’s time talk about Health Regeneration. That’s right, you can shoot and dodge bullets, but you’ll want to boost your regeneration points, so we’re putting it at number six.
- Body Damage: Applying points to Body Damage will increase the armor around your tank so it will be tougher against collisions and other tanks’ bullets.
- Max Health: Not required, but if you have points to spare, it doesn’t hurt to put a little bit onto Maximum Health, especially if you’re in a tough lobby.
