A comment posted by /u/1980XS1100 on Facebook in response to a post which was meant to be a joke has been flagged. When the user appealed, Facebook rejected the appeal. The user’s response was, “You sent a motor to the scraps??? You animal.”
This is one of many stories that have been shared by Facebook users where automated moderation runs amok randomly flags comments for no discernible reason. Add to that the fact that the appeal was denied. Did a moderator really review the post and this user’s comment, and then make the decision to deny their appeal? Was their appeal really ever reviewed, or did another algorithm scan it before making this determination? These are questions that are difficult to get answers for given Facebook’s lack of transparency.
